With Easter over, we had to get back to serious training. Tom promised (bribed) us with food - which is going to be a recurring theme in France. Today's ride took us past Britain's most haunted pub in Bletchingly, the Windmill at Outwood, Dormandsland through East Grinstead. There was a classic bus extravaganza being held at East Grinstead. We saw loads of them on the road and for once, we didn't mind being overtaken by them!

Classic Bus! Need to hire one for Wilson's?
Our ultimate aim was to get to Pooh Corner, in Hartfield, where the shop and the cafe provided with welcome break for lunch. There were novelty teapots and mugs and the food was good too! My parents joined us there and Pooh found a lookalike - my dad. Sadly we didn't get to throw any Pooh sticks.

My dad found a teapot that looks like him!
Pooh has friends for tea!
"I wasn't going to eat it. I was just going to TASTE it!
After getting rid of my parents, (who are not at all good at cycling and drove back), we returned via a parallel route. The Oxted to Warlingham climb is a bit of a steep one, just when you think you're nearly home, but we made it!

Banstead to Peaslake & back.

Today, we cycled in the beautiful Surrey Hills, which is just on our doorstep. We went past Epsom Downs, past Leith Hill near Dorking and finally arrived at our destination in Peaslake. I enjoyed hot chocolate and a pastie at the Village Store (which is Mecca for cyclists according to our cycling Leader, Tom). The warm weather reminded us of what the conditions will be like in France - hot! So after refreshments, we headed home. The bluebells, covering the ground near Leigh, completed the spring scenery! Glad to be home after 55 miles and almost 6 hours of cycling!
